MGB Wheeled Bins in Malaysia

History of the Wheeled Bin

The modern wheel bin as we know today was the creation of Frank Rotherham Mouldings on behalf of a company in Slough, England back in 1968. Initially it was just used to transport waste in and around the factory. That would changed when a health and safety inspector caught a glimpse of the bins and had the eureka moment. At that time waste collectors in England were suffering from back injuries due to carrying heavy loads of wastes, he knew that having the bins on wheels would greatly reduce the amounts of injuries to the workers and help with efficiency.

Households, bins and systems of waste management

The standardization of wheeled bins would only be implemented in the 1980s, when refuse collection lorries with lifters were introduced. These lifters would pick up and empty the bins using a hydraulic system with ease. This was a big step forward. The switch to wheeled bins gained an enormous pace because it solved a real problem. Carrying around big, heavy bins with households increasing domestic wastes at a monumental rate. What started as a healthy and safety issue quickly became an effective way to deal with domestic waste.

What are Wheeled Bins Made of ?

The modern day wheeled bins are almost all made using high-density polyethylene (HDPE). This polymer became the plastic of choice due to its high strength to density ration. Capable of withstanding harsh elements such as acids, fungi, bacteria. Also resistance to denting, bending, cold temperatures and even the tropical heat. It was a no-brainer that HDPE became the standard for wheeled bins we see today.

What are Wheeled Bins Used for?

Malaysia produces a staggering 40,000 tonnes of waste each day. Every household, commercial and industrial building needs a practical and efficient container to be a means of storing and transporting waste. Depending on the size of and waste output, there are various sizes of wheeled bins to choose from. The most popular would be the 120 litre model. Mainly used for landed households, it is the smallest and most practical. 240 litres is popular for both commercial and high rise households.

To cater for larger amounts of waste, the four wheeled bin models take the lead. Normally seen behind commercial units are the popular 660 litre bins. Attached are four wheels giving it a very easy way to move large amounts of waste around. To ensure the bin does not move around accidentally there are 2 brakes on the front portion, which can be engaged.

Lastly is the 1100 litre version, equal in every way except of the large size capacity. The largest in the family it is a favourite among industrial complexes.

In summary, the humble wheel bin has become the gold standard when it comes to waste handling. Without them we would be going back to the dark ages.
